US plans to mediate tensions between Greece and Turkey, Pompeo says

·

US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said the US has plans for a “diplomatic initiative” to diffuse tension between Greece and Turkey.

While Pompeo was fairly vague about what the initiative would entail, the conversation came after the Greek PM’s visit to the White House last week, insinuating general support for Athens.

Pompeo told Kathimerini that the initiative will be launched as a response to the growing tension between Greece and Turkey following the Turkey-Libya deal.

Greece, the US and Turkey all belong to NATO, which has announced it will have no involvement in the tension between Greece and Turkey.
