Sydney Olympic FC stage stunning comeback to reach Australia Cup Round of 32

Sydney Olympic FC produced a dramatic late comeback to secure their place in the Hahn Australia Cup Round of 32, surviving a major scare against Fraser Park FC in one of the standout matches of the Preliminary Round.

Trailing 2-0 and staring at elimination, Olympic stormed back in the second half to claim a thrilling 3-2 victory and continue their national cup campaign.

Fraser Park shocked the visitors early, taking control through goals from Ben Astudillo and Francis McAlpine, whose stunning long-range strike left Olympic with a mountain to climb.

However, the former National Soccer League giants responded strongly after the break. Lucas Williams sparked the comeback before Bailey Callaghan restored parity to level the contest.

With extra time looming, Daniel Wong emerged as the hero, scoring in the 90th minute to complete the remarkable turnaround and seal Olympic’s place in the Round of 32.

The victory ensures Sydney Olympic will once again feature on the national stage as they continue their pursuit of Australia Cup success.

Elsewhere, APIA Leichhardt FC booked their place in the Round of 32 with a narrow 1-0 win over Rockdale Ilinden FC, while Sydney United 58 FC recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory against Blacktown City FC.

SD Raiders FC also progressed after defeating Wollongong United FC 2-1 thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time winner.

All four clubs have additionally advanced to the semi-finals of the historic Waratah Cup, with the draw expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
