The ‘Greek Scouser’ scores the winning penalty for Liverpool FC in the FA Cup Final

·

Liverpool held their nerve to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2006 after a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Chelsea on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won 6-5 on penalties at Wembley as ‘The Greek Scouser,’ Kostas Tsimikas, was the unlikely hero with the decisive kick.

A hard-fought final had finished a 0-0 draw after extra-time, setting the stage for a nerve-jangling shoot-out that featured misses by Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, whose shot was saved by Edouard Mendy.

After Alisson Becker saved from Mason Mount, it was left to Tsimikas to step up and send Mendy the wrong way to bring the trophy back to Anfield.

Liverpool’s triumph keeps them in the hunt to become the first English team to win all four major trophies in a single season.

After the match, Tsimikas was asked about his ‘Greek Scouser’ nickname and gave this hilarious response.

“I’m not the Greek Scouser, I am a Scouser who is Greek!,” he said.

The 25-year-old was already very popular amongst Liverpool fans and now he will have a bigger place in their hearts after writing himself into the club’s history books.
