Pontian Brotherhood of WA hosts night of culture, dance and music in Perth

·

The Pontian Brotherhood of St George Western Australia united Perth’s Greek community on Saturday, August 30, hosting its Annual Dinner Dance at the Hellenic Community of WA’s upper hall.

More than 400 people attended including Greek Consul Eleni Georgopoulou, His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth, Fr Terry Gerovasilis, Hellenic Community of WA Vice President Effie Mazgaltzidis, Pontoxeniteas NSW President Maria Anthony, and Pontian Brotherhood of WA President Harry Navrozidis.

A highlight of the evening was a performance by the Pontoxeniteas NSW dance group, which drew loud applause from all the guests.

Students from the Pontian Brotherhood of WA also impressed with traditional dances, while one young performer recited the historic Pontic lament Η Ρωμανία πάρθεν (“Romania has fallen”), recalling the fall of Constantinople and the enduring hope of Hellenism.

Live Pontian music from Sydney musicians Eric Fotiadis, Prodromo Moysiadis and Peter Tsenkas kept the celebrations lively.

Bishop Elpidios praised the Brotherhood for an event that “not only entertained but also reinforced the importance of keeping cultural heritage alive.”
