$1.2 billion Chatswood tower plan lodged for fast-track approval

·

A $1.2 billion plan to redevelop Chatswood’s Mandarin Centre into a 32-storey tower with 325 apartments has been lodged with the NSW Government for fast-track approval.

The proposal, submitted by Metis and Capitel Group on behalf of Mandarin Developments, would see four levels of retail rebuilt beneath a residential tower just minutes from Chatswood’s rail and metro stations. Five per cent of the apartments would be allocated as affordable housing.

The project has been deemed state-significant due to its scale and proximity to public transport. It has been designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the firm behind Dubai’s Burj Khalifa and New York’s One World Trade Center.

Mandarin Developments director Eduard Litver told The Australian Financial Review: “The Mandarin Centre has occupied a prominent position in Chatswood CBD for decades, but it has long been clear that the site was underutilised given its strategic location and excellent connectivity.”

He added the proposal would “unlock the site’s full potential and contribute meaningfully to Chatswood’s future as a major residential and employment precinct.”

Metis director Arian Galanis said the plan would deliver “well-located housing, improved public spaces, better access and a revitalised retail precinct.”

If approved, construction could begin in mid-2027.
