‘Paravasis’: A night of Greek Australian comedy hosted by Anthony Locascio

·

“Well it suits the holy Chorus / evermore with counsel wise / To exhort and teach the city; / this we therefore now advise…” – Paravasis from ‘The Frogs’, Aristophanes (405 BC)

Following a hugely successful first year in 2025, the Greek Festival of Sydney is proud to present ‘Paravasis’, a showcase of the funniest up-and-coming Australian comedians of Greek heritage for its second year.

Join host Anthony Locascio at the Sydney Comedy Store on Sunday, March 8 for a night of “…stories (and jokes) which reference experiences beyond the limiting prism of ethnicity.”

Paravasis is curated and hosted by Locascio, one of Australia’s most beloved Greek Australian comedians. Also known as Locash, Locascio has gained global attention for his incisive comedy and witty observations about Greek culture with shows such as Don’t Call Me a Wog! (2022) and Pappou (2024-25).

Paravasis

In ancient Greek comedies, the paravasis was the portion of a play in which the chorus would address the audience directly, welcoming them into the action happening on stage. These outstanding comedians are sure to do the same, inviting the audience to think, reminisce and, most of all, laugh along with them.

With Paravasis, Locascio takes a break from his global tour of his show The Divine Comedy to pay it forward and shine a light on the next generation of promising Greek Australian comedians.

Fresh off their smashing success at the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s 2025 Raw Comedy competition are runners up Mariah Nicholas and Josh Spyro, and Raw Comedy’s 2025 winner Peter Josip. Melbourne favourites Montana Papadinis and Con Coutis will also take the stage.

Each comedian will aim to move beyond stereotypical ‘ethnic’ comedy stereotypes in their material, offering a night of laughs that’s sure to be hilarious for Greek and non-Greek audience members alike.
