AEK Athens defeats PAOK to secure historic double in Greek Cup Final

·

In a captivating Greek Cup Final, AEK Athens achieved a monumental milestone by securing their first domestic double in over four decades with a resounding 2-0 victory over PAOK Thessaloniki.

The football game was held in the Greek city of Volos, behind closed doors at the Panthessaliko Stadium.

Despite AEK playing for almost the entire final with 10 men, the team triumphed over PAOK.

Football player, Lararos Rota, left AEK with 10 players as early as the sixth minute for a clumsy challenge. This was the earliest red card ever shown in a Greek Cup final.

However, that did not alter the game’s balance, with Cameroonian Harold Moukoudi opening the score for AEK on the 27th minute.

PAOK played catch-up but produced only a handful of major chances, one of which saw the ball stop at the goal frame.

Yet it was AEK that scored again, at the start of the time added on, through a spectacular effort by Paolo Fernandes that was the final’s highlight.

With AEK’s victory, PAOK will have to play in next season’s Conference League qualifiers, as Olympiakos has won entry into Europa League.
