The Presidential Mansion in Athens, Greece was lit up in the colours of the Ukrainian flag on Monday to mark Europe Day 2022.

In a statement, the Office of the Presidency said that the initiative “is a minimal sign of solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people, who are fighting for freedom, independence, the rule of law and the right to self-determination, the fundamental values of our culture.”

Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, also reiterated solidarity with Ukraine on the day. In a post on Twitter, he said: “The war in Ukraine is a stark reminder of the EU contribution to the stability of Europe.”

“We need to nurture what we have achieved and continue to build the democratic, peaceful and united Europe that our citizens expect,” the Greek PM added.

Later, Greece’s Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, also confirmed that the Greek embassy in Kyiv would reopen for business.
