Football Victoria celebrates landmark year with 2025 AGM and Annual Report release

·

Football Victoria’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Monday, May 25 at The Home of the Matildas at La Trobe University, brought together key Victorian football stakeholders to celebrate another landmark year for our game.

Addressing Members and stakeholders, Football Victoria (FV) Chair Dr Angela Williams reflected on the extraordinary momentum of football across the state, highlighting the strength of the football community and the importance of remaining connected at every level of the game.

“We have laid foundations financially, in governance, with our stakeholders, and internally so that we can commit to both stability and sustainability whilst chasing change together,” Williams said.

“We will continue to place a strong emphasis on building foundations for long-term success - being transparent, clear, and consistent with our decision making and building on trust.”

FV CEO Dan Birrell followed, reflecting on the collective success of the football community, emphasising that the accomplishments of the past year are shared by everyone in the room – and well worth celebrating.

“When I look back on the past year, the word that stands out for me is progress,” Birrell said.

“We’ve seen continued growth across our game and that growth is not just a statistic – it’s a signal.

“It tells us that football matters to more people than ever before and that our communities believe in what we are building together.”

Executive Manager of Business Services, Simon Avenell, provided Members with an overview of Football Victoria’s strong financial performance in 2025.

“Throughout 2025, football in Victoria continued its strong momentum, reflected in rising participation levels and a healthy financial position,” Mr Avenell said.

“Maintaining this strength allows FV to further support the broader football community, while continuing to advance the objectives set out in FV’s Our Football strategy.”

The evening also marked the official release of Football Victoria’s 2025 Financial Statements and 2025 Annual Report, showcasing a year of remarkable progress and momentum for football in Victoria.

A significant moment in the evening recognised the ongoing transition of Victorian regional associations into FV’s statewide structure, with Life Members from each region formally welcomed into the Football Victoria’s honour roll

This was followed by the announcement and endorsement of two new FV Life members in legendary referee and mentor Eugene Brazzale and trailblazing female administrator Maggie Koumi.

The AGM concluded with the announcement of the two FV Board members, as elected by the Voting Member Clubs:

Elenna Niteros

Having served on the Football Victoria Board since the 2024 AGM, re-elected Director Elenna Niteros has been part of the football community as a player and long-time volunteer. Niteros is dedicated to ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion and the growth of women’s football are central to board decisions and priorities, promoting a sustainable and inclusive football ecosystem.

With a people first mindset to decision making, Niteros will continue to ensure clubs and communities are heard and reflected in the decisions that shape the game.

Peter Filopoulos

Peter Filopoulos is an experienced football executive with 20+ years experience across club, state, national and international football organisations.

Filopoulos is committed to strengthening and supporting clubs as the foundation of the game and ensuring football in Victoria continues to grow, innovate and thrive for future generations.

Following the AGM, the newly elected Board also determined to appoint Steve Forbes onto the FV Board as an appointed Director, to continue to deliver the Digital & Systems priorities imperative to the organisation for the next three years.

Dr Angela Williams was also re-elected as Chair, to continue to lead Football Victoria into its next chapter.

With participation continuing to rise and stronger connections being built across every level of the game, Football Victoria now looks ahead with confidence, focused on strengthening communities and creating positive football experiences for all.
