Mark Dymiotis to give lecture in Melbourne on the Mediterranean diet

La Trobe University’s Greek Studies Program and the La Trobe University Greek Society (LUGS) will jointly present a lecture by Mark Dymiotis on the traditional Mediterranean diet on Thursday, November 2.

This presentation is about the practical aspects of the traditional Greek diet of the 1950s and beyond, which is regarded as the prototype Mediterranean diet – a healthy, low cost and pro-environment diet. 

Food components will be described as well as the recent misuse of the term MedDiet. The importance of the easy and naturally developed flavours of this diet will also be discussed.

Mark Dymiotis grew up in Cyprus, with the traditional diet, now called Mediterranean diet. He studied Engineering in Greece and The Netherlands and has been an Honorary Research Fellow at La Trobe University. He has been teaching the basics of this diet at the Centre for Adult Education (CAE) in Melbourne since 1989. In describing Mark’s garden, a reporter has said, “A visit to Mark’s garden makes you think.”
