Maria Sakkari secures straight-set win at Dubai Open

Greek tennis champion, Maria Sakkari defeated world no. 23, Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-4 in the second round of the Dubai Open, securing a return to the top-10 of world rankings.

According to naftemporiki.gr, Sakkari recorded her first win in the main draw of this tournament and is into the round of 16 for the first time in Dubai.

This win places Sakkari back into the top ten of the world rankings as of next week, following a brief time just shy of her usual spot.

The no.8 seed will now face Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, who also closed out her previous match in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) against Leila Fernandes.

The two [Sakkari and Paolini] have previously played each other two years ago at Roland Garros, with Sakkari prevailing 2-0 in straight sets.
