Greece among top favourites for Eurovision win

·

This year’s Eurovision, held in Vienna, has seen Greece emerge as one of the favourites among the 35 competing entries. The BBC has praised Greek artist Akyla for his song ‘Ferto’, highlighting its distinctive sound and fusion of traditional Greek instruments with house beats.

‘Ferto’ also carries emotional depth in its lyrics, beginning as an anthem about fame and fortune before evolving into a personal confession addressed to the artist’s mother, centred on the hardships his family endured during Greece’s economic crisis.

Greece’s main rival in the competition is Finland, represented by Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen with their song ‘Liekinheitin’.

Cyprus is represented by Antigoni with her song ‘Jalla’, described as a Mediterranean-inspired track featuring strong elements of tsifteteli. The BBC also noted controversy surrounding the song’s music video, which some critics in Cyprus have labelled offensive to Cypriot history and traditions.
