Aristophanes’ ‘Lysistrata’ come to Melbourne stage in bold new production

·

Creative Drama & Arts, in co-production with the Greek Community of Melbourne, presents at Doncaster Playhouse a new, vibrant and bold stage interpretation of Aristophanes’ Lysistrata, one of the most iconic comedies of antiquity, which remains strikingly relevant today.

In Lysistrata, Aristophanes presents a daring and subversive story: the women of Athens and Sparta, exhausted by endless war, decide to unite and impose peace in the most unexpected way. With humour, wit and irresistible determination, they organise a collective act of resistance that forces the men, and the entire city, to confront their choices. A comedy about the power of unity, individual voice and collective action.

With sharp satire, strong physicality and boundless energy, this production highlights the strength of collectivity through humour, transforming the classical text into a contemporary theatrical experience.

The performance is presented in Greek, with live English surtitles, making it accessible to non-Greek-speaking audiences.
