Justice for Cyprus: Sydney prepares to mark 51 years since Turkish invasion

·

The Cypriot community of New South Wales will once again come together to honour the memory of the fallen and demand justice for the missing, as Sydney prepares to mark the 51st anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus on Sunday, 27 July 2025.

Organised by the Justice for Cyprus Coordinating Committee (SEKA NSW), this year’s commemorative events will be attended by Andreas Grigoriou, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus, who will be present as an official guest.

The day will begin with a Memorial Service at 9:30am at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady, Redfern. The service will honour those who lost their lives in 1974 and include prayers for the missing persons whose fate remains unresolved.

Following the service, guests are invited to light refreshments at the church hall, where official remarks will be delivered by honorary guests, including representatives from Cyprus and Australia.

The commemorations will conclude with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Cenotaph in Martin Place at 1:30pm. In keeping with the solemnity of the site, participants are respectfully reminded that signage is not permitted during the ceremony.
