Cyprus’ Andreas Grigoriou to visit Australia to mark 51st anniversary of Turkish invasion

·

Andreas Grigoriou, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and Head of Administration of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, is scheduled to visit Australia this July to participate in commemorative events marking the 51st anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

The 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus remains a defining event in the nation’s history, leading to the division of the island and ongoing political challenges.

Mr Grigoriou’s visit underscores the enduring ties between Cyprus and the Cypriot diaspora in Australia, particularly in cities like Sydney and Melbourne, where significant Greek and Cypriot communities reside.

During his visit, Mr Grigoriou is expected to attend memorial services, meet with community leaders, and participate in discussions aimed at strengthening the bonds between Cyprus and its diaspora.

His presence in Australia highlights the importance of international solidarity and the role of the diaspora in preserving cultural heritage and advocating for Cyprus on the global stage.
