Drakopoulos family fundraiser raises $62,500 for the Greek Home for the Aged

·

An intimate and deeply moving fundraising event held on Thursday, May 28, at Summer Salt Restaurant in Cronulla has successfully raised $62,500.00 for the Greek Community Home for the Aged in Earlwood.

Presented by the Drakopoulos family, the exclusive “Intimate Night with Dimitris Basis” brought community members together for an evening of fine dining and acclaimed live music, with 100% of the proceeds dedicated to improving facility infrastructure.

The significant funds raised from the night will go directly toward the purchase of a much-needed industrial washing machine and dryer for the home.

The evening was held in loving memory of the late Michael Tsilimos, former General Secretary of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, honouring his profound legacy and tireless dedication to the elderly community.

Reflecting on the overwhelming support from the community, Mrs Kathleen Drakopoulos shared: “It’s a privilege to give back to the Greek Community Home for the Aged and our family is honoured to be part of this wonderful evening.”

Mrs Drakopoulos also extended her heartfelt thanks to featured artist Dimitris Basis for being part of this successful evening and generously donating his time for this wonderful initiative.

Basis, who captivated the audience with his performance, spoke of his long-standing commitment to the facility.

“I have for the past four visits to Australia been part of every fundraiser for the Greek Community Home for the Aged and in my own way contribute to the continuation of giving back to the community,” Basis said.

“This evening is dedicated to the late Michael Tsilimos who held the Greek Community Home for the Aged in the highest regard and ensured the highest standards being delivered to the Greek elderly in the community.”

Basis went on to express his sincere gratitude to everyone who attended the event, noting their presence ensured the evening was an absolute success.

The event featured a custom three-course sharing menu paired with drinks, creating a warm, communal atmosphere that generated vital resources for the comfort and care of the home’s residents.
