Archbishop Makarios hosts Queensland’s Honorary Consul-General of Greece

·

After attending Divine Liturgy at the Holy Cathedral of Saint Sophia on Pentecost Sunday, the Honorary Consul-General of Greece in Queensland, George Mastrocostas, and his wife Ying were hosted for morning tea by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia at the Archdiocese in Sydney.

The Honorary Consul-General described the visit as a privilege, saying the Archbishop’s “warmth, his depth of faith, and his genuine love for Hellenism and Orthodoxy are immediately evident the moment you are in his presence,” adding that despite a demanding schedule “he gave us his time generously and wholeheartedly.”

His Eminence also personally guided the couple through the Cathedral at Redfern, the spiritual and administrative heart of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

“To walk through that cathedral with the Archbishop himself as your guide is an experience that transcends words,” he said, describing it as “a living testament to the enduring presence of our Orthodox faith on this continent.”

He said the visit left him “inspired,” noting he attended “first and foremost as a Greek Orthodox Christian, as a husband, as a father, and as a proud son of this faith,” and thanked the Archbishop for his “leadership, your vision, and your profound humanity.”
