Anemones honour spirit of volunteering and community service

·

The Greek Women of Northern Suburbs ‘Anemones’ celebrated National Volunteer Week on Tuesday, May 12, following the group’s regular dance class.

The group came together to recognise and celebrate the generosity, compassion and dedication of volunteers who bring comfort, connection and hope to those who need it most.

A special tribute to volunteers highlighted the importance of service within the community. President Nola Radiotis spoke of the deep importance of volunteering, not only for the joy it brings to those receiving care, but also for the fulfilment it offers volunteers themselves, fostering purpose, companionship and pride in giving back.

She spoke of the many ways a person can volunteer, with particular emphasis on visits to aged care facilities where the group entertains the residents with traditional Greek dancing and music. These visits bring joy and a sense of connection to those who often rely on such interactions to feel connected and remembered.

Mrs Radiotis also expressed sincere thanks to all members for their ongoing contribution and  willingness to assist and support one another, reinforcing the strong sense of unity within the group. She also commended the ladies for their dedication to volunteering and expressed her hope that their efforts will continue.

The evening concluded with a delicious supper provided my members, accompanied by warm, animated conversations and laughter.

Such events serve as a powerful reminder that when women unite in support and friendship, their impact extends far beyond their gatherings, enriching the broader community.

National Volunteer Week will be observed from 18 to 24 May under the theme “Your Year to Volunteer”, encouraging individuals across the country to recognise and participate in the invaluable work of volunteers.
