The Greek Circle launches ‘Tainia kai Tavli’ film nights in Melbourne

·

Film is arguably one of the most important mediums for capturing a culture at any given moment in history, providing a social commentary that extends beyond just words.

This passion for using film to better understand the world is what inspired the launch of “Tainia kai Tavli”, a new and ongoing initiative by The Greek Circle to help Greek Australian youth access Greek films and deepen their understanding of Greek culture.

Hosted at the Pallaconian Brotherhood in Brunswick, the free “Tainia kai Tavli” event was a cosy and intimate film night, with about 30 attendees aged 18-35.

The evening began with a curated Greek film screening (with English subtitles), followed by group film discussion, time to connect with new friends, and a few games of Tavli and chess.

To make the night even more memorable, event sponsor Melvourni generously provided frappedes to keep the ‘kafeneio’ vibes going throughout the evening.

Event organiser and founder of The Greek Circle, Marianna Mossonidis, said she was “thrilled to see so much interest in events like these, and hope that as this initiative continues, The Greek Circle will see an increase in the number of attendees at each event.”
