Thousands of free water-saving kits to be distributed across Cyprus

·

Cyprus is stepping up efforts to tackle water scarcity by distributing thousands of free water-saving devices to households and businesses across the island, according ekathimerini.com

The initiative, led by the Water Development Department, forms part of a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting more efficient water use as the country continues to face drought conditions and increasing pressure on water resources.

The program is being launched in Paphos before gradually expanding to other regions over the coming months. Authorities plan to distribute approximately 75,000 kits, each containing four tap aerators and two shower flow restrictors designed to reduce water consumption in everyday use.

According to officials, the devices can lower water usage by as much as 30 per cent while maintaining normal water flow and user comfort. The technology is intended to help consumers conserve water without requiring major changes to their daily habits.

The campaign comes amid growing concerns over water availability in Cyprus, where prolonged dry periods and limited rainfall have placed increasing strain on reservoirs and supply networks.

By encouraging households and businesses to adopt simple water-saving measures, authorities hope to reduce overall consumption and improve the country’s resilience to future droughts. The initiative is one of several measures being introduced to support sustainable water management and raise public awareness about the importance of conservation.

Officials have urged residents to participate in the program and embrace responsible water use as Cyprus continues to address ongoing environmental and climate-related challenges.
