Antipodean Palette 2026 to celebrate the continuing story of Greek Australian culture

·

The Greek-Australian Cultural League’s 16th Annual Art Exhibition, Antipodean Palette 2026, will launch on Saturday, July 4 at the Malvern Artists’ Society Gallery, bringing together artists, musicians, writers and members of the community in a celebration of Greek Australian cultural life.

Now in its 16th year, Antipodean Palette has become one of the most significant annual cultural events in Melbourne’s Greek Australian calendar. The exhibition provides a platform for both established and emerging artists to explore themes of identity, migration, memory, heritage and belonging through their creative work.

In an era where cultural traditions can easily be diluted or forgotten, events such as Antipodean Palette play a vital role in preserving and nurturing the rich legacy of Greek culture in Australia. They create opportunities for younger generations to connect with their heritage while also sharing that heritage with the wider Australian community.

As part of the official launch, the Eikon Byzantine Choir will present a selection of Byzantine hymns, offering visitors the opportunity to experience one of the oldest living musical traditions in the world. Under the direction of Ioanna Nikoloulea, the ensemble of Ioanna Nikoloulea, Sava Djukic and Kaliroy Kirkopoulos will present sacred music that has been passed down through generations.

The inclusion of Byzantine chant alongside contemporary visual art highlights the breadth and depth of Greek cultural expression. Together, these artistic traditions serve as living links between past and present, reminding us that culture is not merely inherited; it must be actively cultivated, shared and sustained.

The Greek-Australian Cultural League has long been committed to fostering education, dialogue and artistic excellence within the community. Through initiatives such as Antipodean Palette, it continues to ensure that Greek Australian voices, stories and traditions remain visible and vibrant for future generations.

Antipodean Palette 2026 will be held from 3–12 July 2026 at the Malvern Artists’ Society Gallery, 1297-1299 High Street, Malvern. Exhibition Launch: Saturday 4 July 2026, 2pm
