AHEPA Australia launches ‘Saving Hearts’ fundraiser in support of Heart Foundation

·

AHEPA Australia will host a special Saving Hearts Fundraiser on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at The Grand Roxy in Brighton-Le-Sands, Sydney in support of the Heart Foundation.

Presented by the Grand Lodge of NSW, the event will raise awareness and vital funds for heart health in Australia, while also recognising outstanding contributions to cardiovascular medicine.

In partnership with the Cardio Society of Australia and New Zealand, two leading cardiologists will be honoured on the day for their service and research.

Heart disease remains one of Australia’s biggest health issues, consistently ranking alongside cancer as the leading cause of death both nationally and globally. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ 2022 National Health Survey, as published by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare,

  • 1.3 million Australians live with heart, stroke, or vascular disease;
  • This represents 6.7% of the adult population; and
  • 600,000 Australians (3% of adults) are affected by coronary heart disease.

Recognising the importance of community-led awareness, AHEPA Australia is championing prevention and education through this initiative.

“Heart disease is one of the biggest health issues we face in Australia – and globally it alternates with cancer for the top spot. We all know a friend or relative who has faced heart problems,” an event organiser said.

“Our lifestyles have changed drastically and, while our Greek food culture is rich and beautiful, some of our favourite dishes don’t always help. This is a wonderful opportunity to show how Greek Australians can unite to fundraise and sustain charitable causes for the good of the wider community.”

AHEPA Australia notes that over half of its members have personally experienced heart issues, reinforcing the urgency of supporting the Heart Foundation’s mission to improve cardiovascular health and fund groundbreaking research.

Guests will enjoy a four-course meal with wine, beer, and soft drinks, alongside presentations on heart research breakthroughs. The program will include short videos featuring Heart Foundation researchers discussing their innovative projects, such as Research Heroes and 3D Printing Heart Valves to Last a Lifetime.

The event will commence at 1:00 pm on Sunday, 12 October 2025, at The Grand Roxy, 128 The Grand Parade, Brighton-Le-Sands NSW 2216. Tickets are $120 per person, and reservations can be made by 9 October 2025 by contacting Theo Skhinas (0418 613 230) or emailing glnsw@ahepa.org.au.

Funds raised will directly support the Heart Foundation’s research and community programs, helping save lives and strengthen heart health for generations to come.
