Greece protests to French newspaper over map showing islands as Turkish

·

A French daily newspaper called Le Monde, has recently published a map of the Turkish election results that showed a number of Greek islands as Turkish territory.

According to a report by Ekathimerini, Greece’s ambassador in Paris has complained to the publishers of Le Monde.

The map purports that the Greek islands of Chios, Samos, Ikaria, Kos, Ios, Amorgos and Rhodes voted for the Leader of the Main Opposition in Turkey, Kemal Kilicdaroglu in Sunday’s presidential election.

The newspaper used Anadolu, a Turkish state-run news agency as its source for the map, Ekathimerini reported.

Diplomatic sources in Athens said that, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, Ambassador Dimitrios Zevelakis wrote to the newspaper, calling on it to remove the infographic.

It is understood Le Monde have removed the map in question from its website.
