Sydney Olympic upset Marconi to reach next round of Australia Cup

·

Sydney Olympic FC produced a major upset on Wednesday night, defeating Marconi Stallions FC 1-0 at The Crest Athletic Centre to advance to the next stage of the Australia Cup qualifying competition.

The fifth-round clash saw Sydney Olympic overcome the pre-match favourites through a decisive second-half strike from Max Luburic, whose spectacular long-range effort from approximately 25 metres found the net in the 60th minute.

Despite Marconi entering the fixture as the stronger side on paper, Olympic delivered a disciplined and determined performance, holding firm defensively while creating key opportunities in attack.

Luburic’s goal proved enough to separate the two sides in a tightly contested encounter, with Sydney Olympic earning a deserved victory after matching Marconi’s intensity throughout the match.

The result sends Olympic through to the next round of the competition, providing a confidence boost as the club continues its cup campaign.
