St Euphemia College has publicly confirmed the departure of principal Penny Pachos following growing speculation and discussion within the school community over the circumstances surrounding her exit.
In a statement released through the school’s latest newsletter on Friday, the Board of Directors acknowledged that Ms Pachos’ departure had “raised many questions” among parents and the wider College community.
“We wish to address the recent departure of Mrs Penny Pachos,” the Board stated.
“We understand that this has raised many questions, and we want to assure you that the Board remains committed to providing steady leadership, care, and continuity for your children and for the wider College community.”
The statement did not provide any details regarding the circumstances of Ms Pachos’ departure, which sources have described as sudden.
Over the past week, the leadership change has prompted significant discussion among sections of the St Euphemia community, with parents and staff seeking clarification over what led to the development and what comes next for the College.
The Board acknowledged Ms Pachos’ contribution during her time at the school.
“Over the past three years, Mrs Penny Pachos has contributed to the life of the College through her leadership and commitment to its academic and community growth,” the statement read.
The Board also confirmed interim leadership arrangements and future plans for the College would be announced in the coming days.
“The Board will provide further information about interim leadership arrangements and next steps in the coming days,” the statement said.
“In the meantime, we ask for your continued support, trust, and prayers for our students, staff and the wider College community.”
A separate section of the newsletter addressed students directly, reassuring them that school life would continue with “care, calm and consistency,” while also attempting to ease concerns among Year 12 students ahead of their HSC preparations.
“We especially want to reassure our Year 12 students that every endeavour will be made to ensure that this change in leadership does not affect your HSC preparation,” the Board said.
“Your teachers and the wider College team remain focused on supporting you, guiding you and helping you to stay on track.”
Ms Pachos was appointed Principal of St Euphemia College in November 2023, taking over from Father Peter Mavrommatis, who had served as interim principal since September 2019.
Before joining St Euphemia College, Ms Pachos held positions at Mount Saint Joseph Catholic College in Milperra, St Patrick’s College in Strathfield and MLC School in Burwood.
