Greek Orthodox Schools unite for National Schools Event 2026

·

Greek Orthodox schools from across Australia came together this week for the highly successful 2026 Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia National Schools Event (GOAANSE), celebrating sport, culture, faith and community spirit.

Participating schools included St Spyridon College, St Euphemia College, All Saints Grammar, Oakleigh Grammar, St Andrew’s Grammar, St George College and St John’s College.

The event brought together students, staff and families from across the country in a week-long showcase of athletic competition and cultural activities, highlighting the strength and unity of Greek Orthodox education in Australia, while also providing the opportunity for those participating to connect with their inter-school and interstate counterparts.

Students participated in a range of sporting competitions including Football, Futsal, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Netball and Basketball, while cultural events featured music and performances celebrating Greek heritage and Orthodox traditions.

Hosted by St Euphemia College Bankstown, the event was praised for the outstanding spirit of sportsmanship and friendship displayed throughout the week.

Principal of St Euphemia College, Penny Pachos, said the event demonstrated the very best of the Greek Orthodox school community in Australia.

“It’s been incredibly inspiring to witness Greek Orthodox schools from across the country come together in such a positive and uplifting spirit,” Mrs Pachos said.

“The camaraderie shown among the athletes, the encouragement between schools and the friendships formed throughout the week have been truly remarkable.”

Mrs Pachos said GOAANSE continues to provide young people with opportunities that extend well beyond competition.

“GOAANSE is about much more than sport. It is about bringing our young people together, celebrating our shared culture and faith, and creating lasting friendships that will continue well beyond this event,” she said.

The 2026 GOAANSE concluded with strong participation, enthusiastic support from school communities and a shared sense of pride in the continued success and growth of Greek Orthodox education nationwide.
