Bondi hero Ahmed Al-Ahmed speaks after disarming gunman

·

Ahmed Al-Ahmed, the man who tackled one of the Bondi Beach terrorists during Australia’s deadliest terror attack, says his “soul” drove him to act as he leapt onto gunman Sajid Akram to stop him shooting innocent people.

“I jumped on his back, hit him and … hold him with right hand and start to say a word, like, you know, to warn him, ‘Drop your gun’,” he told CBS, adding, “I don’t want to hear his gun. I don’t want to see people screaming and begging.”

The 44-year-old Sutherland tobacconist from Syria, who was shot five times during the December 14 attack that killed 15 people and injured at least 40, said, “I know I saved lots of people’s lives … but I feel sorry still for the lost.”

More than $2.6 million has since been raised for Al-Ahmed, whose store has been covered in handwritten messages praising his bravery.
