Blacktown’s We Are Studios wins Local Project of the Year at Sydney Awards 2025

·

Blacktown-based disability-led creative collective We Are Studios has taken out the Local Project of the Year award at the 2025 Sydney Awards, with artist Jordan Valageorgiou among the team recognised for their work.

The inclusive arts space, established less than three years ago, has already seen its artists’ works exhibited at major cultural institutions including the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, the Art Gallery of NSW, and the Biennale of Sydney.

Accepting the award alongside Valageorgiou were fellow members Liam Benson, Emmanuel Asante, Ebony Wightman, Rebecca Sciroli and Miah Tito-Barratt.

Co-founder Ebony Wightman said the studio’s mission was to break down barriers faced by artists with disabilities.

“We want to make sure that our stories are part of the cultural landscape, and that they are valued,” she said.

The new Local Project of the Year category was introduced for the 2025 awards season, celebrating grassroots initiatives shaping Sydney’s cultural life.
