Nico Lazaridi wines shine at exclusive Sydney hospitality dinner

·

Nico Lazaridi organised a wine dinner at Alpha Dining on Tuesday night, September 2, to promote the PGI wines they produce across northern Greece.

Nineteen guests were in attendance from restaurants such as Akti, Olympus Dining, Ammos, Gazi Sydney, Linchpin Hospitality, Where’s Nick and Homer Rogue Taverna. Representatives from Pyrmont Cellars, the Greek and culinary media, wine educators the Sydney Wine Centre and online wine retailer Somms Choice also attended.

Special guests on the night were the recently arrived Consul of Greece in Sydney, George Skemperis, accompanied by the Trade Commissioner of Greece to Australia, Chryssa Prokopaki.

Six meticulously crafted PGI wines were featured on the night to showcase the unique terroir of the PGI zones Nico Lazaridi operates in. These include Drama, Agora, Naoussa and Amydeon.

The wines were matched to a four course tasting menu featuring contemporary winter-inspired Greek dishes.

Wines featured on the night include 2018 Magic Mountain Red and 2022 Magic Mountain white produced from international varieties and the 2023 Cavalieri Assyrtiko, 2023 Cavalieri Malagousia, 2021 Cavalieri Xinomavro and Evil Eye Rose produced from Greek varieties.

The presentation of the wines by Argyris Karavis from Oinos: Wines of Greece was well received and guests expressed their pleasure in enjoying Greek wines of such a high quality.

A highlight of the night was a discussion amongst the guests in attendance on the challenges of promoting Greek wines in hospitality settings and overwhelmingly positive responses restaurant patrons have once they have taken the plunge to drink Greek wines.

“It was fantastic to see such a wonderful range of people from the Sydney hospitality taking part in the event and taking the opportunity not only to sample the wines of Nico Lazaridi but to find out more about the exciting world of Greek wine,” Mr Karavis said.
