Greek Australian poet Luka Lesson to headline popular Sydney poetry slam

One of Australia’s most renowned poets, rappers and educators of Greek culture and history, Luka Lesson will headline the National Youth Poetry Slam at the State Library of New South Wales.

Taking place on Friday, November 24 from 6.30pm, the event is being held for its second time by Bankstown Poetry Slam.

The event will showcase the talent of Australia’s youth aged 23 and under as they express themselves by reciting original poems.

Participants will be in the running to win a $1000 cash prize, as well as claim the title of the National Youth Poetry Slam champion.

Luka Lesson, who is also known by his Greek name Luka Haralampou, has performed all over Australia and the world, having his works discussed and studied in English and literature classes in schools and universities.

He is most known for his passion for poetry and storytelling with connections to his Greek heritage. In 2011, he was also announced the Australian Poetry Slam champion.

Some of his most-known written works include Antidote, The Future Ancients and Agapi & Other Kinds of Love, which he premiered in 2022 as part of the Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors & Heroes exhibition at the National Museum in Canberra.
