A Kenyan athlete has made a record-breaking win in the men’s race at the annual Athens Authentic Marathon.
Taking place for its 40th time, men and women both competed in the 42.195 kilometre distance race on at Kallimarmaro stadium.

Ekathimerini reported that Edwin Kiprop Kiptoo set a new record for the men’s division, completing the race in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 34 seconds.
The old race course record of 2:10.37 was set nine years ago by Felix Kipchirchir Kandie from Kenya.
After making his grand entrance and receiving a thunderous applause from thousands of spectators, he expressed his gratitude for the organisers who invited him to participate in the event and for his family for their ongoing support.
“I was well prepared, I did not expect to break the record,” Edwin said.
In the women’s race, Sukaina Atanane from Morocco was announced the winner. She completed the race in 2 hours, 31 minutes and 53 seconds.
