At least two Australians of Greek heritage have won at the 2023 News Awards.

The Advertiser journalists Evangeline Polymeneas and Agnes Gichuhi won in the Human-Interest Storytelling – State/ National category.

The pair were awarded for their collaboration on the heart-breaking story of a courageous young Adelaide woman, named Lily Thai, who used the voluntary assisted dying laws in South Australia to end her life.

“We want to thank Lily, who in her final moments on earth decided to share her story with us when she could have been saying goodbye,” Evangeline and Agnes said at the award ceremony.
