‘You won the gene pool’: US President Joe Biden meets Giannis Antetokounmpo at White House

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks were in Washington DC on Monday and met with US President Joe Biden who congratulated them on their 2021 NBA Championship victory.

The 2021 champs have become the first NBA team to visit 1600 Penn since former US President Barack Obama hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

In a speech at the event, Biden addressed Giannis, who was named the NBA Finals MVP, and said that at “just 26 years old, you’re just getting started.”

“What makes it even more special is you won the title with your brother, who is here today, and you join another brother already with a ring. What a hell of a family, I tell you what. I think you won the gene pool,” Biden said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

In response, Giannis thanked the President for inviting his team to the White House and encouraged people watching to believe in their dreams.

“Work every single day and try to get better in anything you do, in anything you love. Believe in your dreams. You can accomplish great things in life,” Giannis said.

“I’ve done that my whole life and I’m in the White House and this is awesome. You can never take moments like that for granted but without hard work that would not be possible.”

The event concluded with Biden being presented with a #46 Milwaukee Bucks team jersey.
