Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari both managed to defeat their opponents, storming their way to the next phase of the Mutua Madrid Open.

Maria Sakkari into the quarter finals:

Maria Sakkari, ranked 9th in the world, stormed into the quarter finals after winning 6-4, 6-4 against Paula Badosa.

Sakkari will be competing against Irina-Camelia Begu in the quarter final on Tuesday night. This is the Greek’s first time making it to the quarterfinals in Madrid.

“I was just trying to keep calm, keep doing what I was doing well the entire match and just play my game,” Sakkari said after the match.

“My level is getting better and better.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas into Round 16:

Stefanos Tsitsipas put a strong performance at crucial moments during his match against Sebastian Baez on Monday to claim a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory.

Tsitsipas claimed the last four games of the opening set and the final three games of the deciding set, which enabled him to progress to the last 16 of the ATP Masters 1000.

“He made it very difficult for me. Honestly, it was demanding in a lot of ways. I had to bring the best out of my game,” Tsitsipas said post-match.
