In a match full of intensity and drama, South Melbourne FC secured a vital 2-1 win over the Preston Lions FC, earning some much-needed points.

On Sunday night at Lakeside Stadium, in front of 5,000 spectators, Preston took the lead in the 56th minute through Brandon Lauton. However, the game was levelled in the 64th minute after Aaron Anderson scored an own goal.

The comeback was completed dramatically in the 90th minute when Maximilian Mikkola scored what could be the goal of the season.

After an excellent cross from Andre Skapoullas, Mikkola flicked the ball into the air and delivered a spectacular bicycle kick, sending the ball past Lucas Trenkovski to make it 2-1 and seal the win for South Melbourne.

With this victory, South Melbourne gained valuable points, now sitting five points clear of the relegation zone, and sent a strong message ahead of upcoming Cup and Championship fixtures.
