Aussie golfer Stephanie Kyriacou caught in ‘unreal’ hole-in-one at Women’s Open

·

Australia’s Stephanie Kyriacou made headlines at the 2025 AIG Women’s Open not only for her strong performance but for her role in a truly surreal moment on the course – an accidental assist on a hole-in-one.

Playing alongside England’s Mimi Rhodes in the final round at Royal Porthcawl in Wales, Kyriacou’s ball became an unlikely aid as Rhodes’ tee shot on the par-three 5th ricocheted off it and dropped into the cup. Neither player realised what had happened until seeing a replay post-round.

“I’m kind of claiming it,” Kyriacou joked. “Even though Mimi is probably not going to say that.”

Rhodes, stunned, added: “I had no idea it hit Steph’s ball until I just saw the video, so that’s unbelievable.”

The moment capped off an impressive week for Kyriacou, who finished tied for 8th – the top Australian result – after a gutsy one-under final round of 71, recovering from a triple-bogey start.

“I stuck in there, showed some grit… I’m really proud with how I showed up for the rest of the day,” she said.

Compatriot Minjee Lee finished tied 13th and claimed the prestigious Annika Award for the best performer across all five women’s majors – becoming the first player to win it twice.

Japan’s Miyu Yamashita secured her first major title with a composed two-under final round, finishing at -11 to win the championship by two strokes. The 24-year-old became the third Japanese woman to win the British Open, celebrating with champagne and tears on the 18th green.

Yamashita held off late challenges from Charley Hull and Minami Katsu, proving unshakable under pressure in one of the most emotionally charged victories of the season.
