Annual “Santa Run” takes place in Chania

·

Thousands of ‘Santa Clauses’ participated in the ninth-annual ‘Santa Run’ through Chania, Crete, on Thursday.

The charitable event raises money for sick children, as runners made their way through the streets of Chania’s city centre, shopping district and Venetian harbour.

Many shops were awarding participants with refreshments, though mostly beer rather than water.

The festive cheer was certainly upheld with lots of music and dancers.

The Chania run occurs every year for different charities. This years was for children suffering health problems.

Organisers say over the last eight years a total of more than 400,000 euros has been raised for various good causes from the event.
