Steve Dimopoulos MP among politicians taking the plunge for MND awareness

·

Victorian senior minister Steve Dimopoulos will join seven other state MPs in an icy water challenge to raise funds for FightMND, supporting Labor MP Emma Vulin in her battle with motor neurone disease (MND).

The annual Freeze Parliament event will see MPs from across political parties take part to raise awareness and money for the cause, which was founded by former Australian of the Year Neale Daniher who passed away this month.

Vulin, the Pakenham MP, was diagnosed with MND in 2024 and said the disease has progressively affected her ability to walk, talk and eat, while also threatening the career she is passionate about.

“Although we fight in the chamber, at the end of the day we’re all decent human beings who care about our community,” Ms Vulin said.

“All the political parties get behind the same cause, and that means a lot, not just to me but to every person living with motor neurone disease.”

Alongside Dimopoulos, participants include Opposition Leader Jess Wilson, ministers Luba Grigirovitch and Paul Edbrooke, deputy Liberal leader David Southwick, Liberal MP Nicole Werner, Greens MP Aiv Puglielli and Nationals MP Jade Benham.

Vulin said her focus was on helping raise as much money as possible for FightMND while continuing to advocate for people living with the disease.
