Stefanos Tsitsipas is off to the fourth round of Australian Open

·

Stefanos Tsitsipas is through to the fourth round in the Australian Open after defeating Dutch Tallon Griekspoor at Rod Laver Arena, in Melbourne today.

Tsitsipas will go to the last 16 of the Australian Open for the fourth time in his career, defeating Griekspoor 6-2 7-6(5) 6-3 win over in two hours and six minutes.

The Greek tennis player overcame adversity in the second set, when he had to save a set point, having not dropped a set in his three matches played, according to Eurosport. He got another break to serve out the set when the Dutchman sent an easy backhand into the net.

Once again, Tsitsipas strengthened his grip on the match when he broke the Griekspoor serve to go to 3-1. The Dutch player was finally defeated by Tsitsipas with a smash on his third match point.

“Fair crack at the whip mate,” Tsitsipas said to Australian fans inside the show court reported Eurosport.

“It was a good mixing up today. I was mixing up my slice and opening the court. I think the placement of my serve was exceptional today. I didn’t have a lot of rallies on my serve which helped a lot today and I enjoyed the weather today. What a lovely day for tennis,” he commented after the match.

“It’s great playing in sunshine today. I enjoyed fighting my way through today. It wasn’t easy at times. I had the crowd with me as always. If there are any real estate brokers or agencies please let me know!”

Tsitsipas verses world No. 16 Jannik Sinner in the fourth round Sunday, January 22 in Melbourne.
