Rising Australian cricket star Sam Konstas is using his platform off the field to honour his late grandfather, teaming up with the McGrath Foundation as an ambassador for Pink Stumps Day.
Konstas, who turns 20 this week, said his grandfather’s death from bowel cancer inspired him to raise awareness and funds for specialist nurses who support patients with cancer, which affects one in two Australians.
“My grandpa was 75, a labour worker, and I think it’s a great message to help people get checked and stay aware,” he said.
While preparing for a busy summer of cricket and eyeing a return to the Australian Test team, Konstas urged the community to “add some pink” to their own games in support of the cause.
