Canterbury Boys High School multi-purpose hall one step closer to works starting

·

A long community campaign for a multi-purpose hall at Canterbury Boys High School has secured a major victory. The campaign, led by the Member for Canterbury Sophie Cotsis MP, included visits from former PM John Howard and then-Treasurer Dominic Perrottet in 2020.

Ms Cotsis has welcomed new funding announced for the hall, stating that it is much needed for the community of Canterbury.

“Our school students, teachers and educational support staff, all deserve the best facilities at their school. Our students deserve to have the same opportunities in education as other students across the state,” Ms Cotsis said.

“I have advocated for more funding for all our schools, and welcome this funding to Canterbury Boys High School. I am pleased that this hall is well underway, with construction currently forecast for late 2022.”

The multi-purpose hall at Canterbury Boys High School is currently in its delivery phase, with:

  • The schematic design approved in April 2022;
  • The main works contract is scheduled to be awarded in August 2022;
  • DA approval is anticipated by late 2022, and
  • Construction work will commence after DA approval, currently forecast for late 2022.

The new multi-purpose hall facility at Canterbury Boys High School will include a stage, an indoor sports court, equipment storage, toilet facilities and back of house facilities, and will help enhance the learning environment at the school and for community use.

“I would like to thank Principal Ross Dummett, president of the P&C Mr Jim Tsolakis, and the entire P&C association for their continued advocacy, and their dedication to our school students,” Ms Cotsis said.

“Our community needs updated and modern state infrastructure. There is still more work to be done including more funding for our local schools, parks, sportsgrounds, and of course Canterbury Hospital.”
