Alphington Grammar School congratulates Year 12 students on 2022 VCE Results

·

Following a streak of tumultuous years and disruptions, Year 12 students at Alphington Grammar School in Victoria received their VCE results on Monday.

Alphington Grammar has released a statement to proudly congratulate the Class of 2022.

The Dux of the school has been revealed to be Zoe Tonkin who achieved an ATAR of 98.7, which places her in the top 2 percent of all students in the state. She received study scores above 40 in Chemistry, Physics and Maths Methods, as well as a 45 in Psychology and a 47 in English.

Zoe plans on studying a double degree in Commerce and Engineering at Monash University, where her candidacy for a scholarship aimed at women in STEM has been warmly received.

Zoe’s results are made particularly notable by her unique circumstances. The onslaught of flooding and drought that afflicted her family farm in Mildura prompted her to move to Melbourne where she lived away from family as she completed her VCE studies.

According to the School Principal, Dr Vivianne Nikou, “her results are testimony to her hard work and dedication in the face of adversity.”

School Valedictorian Thomas Brady is Dux Proximus with an ATAR of 97.9 and Study Scores above 40 in Further Maths, English, Biology and Chemistry. Thomas has overcome his own share of hardship, having undergone a hip replacement at the beginning of the academic year that required ongoing medical support.

The School Principal said: “The determination of our students this year to persevere and support each other through challenges says much about the character of these young men and women as they move into the next stage of their lives.”

51 percent of Alphington Grammar School’s Class of 2022 achieved an ATAR over 80, placing them in the top 20 percent of the state, and 82 percent received an ATAR over 70. The graduating class has an overall median study score of 32 and an average ATAR of 78, which well exceeds the state average. The class also included students who received study scores over 40 in English, Data Analytics, Further Maths, Studio Arts, Visual Communications and Design, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths Methods, Psychology and Greek.

In a letter to the School Community, the School Principal expressed her congratulations to the graduating class.

“It is with much pride and admiration for our students that I announce to the School community that the Class of 2022 has performed exceptionally well given the tumultuous COVID years leading up to these exams,” the letter read.

“To the Class of 2022, I offer my sincere congratulations on what you have achieved individually and collectively. I wish you every success for your future pathways. We look forward to welcoming you back to your School whenever the occasion calls. Best wishes for 2023 and beyond.”
