The ACT Government has paid tribute to Supreme Court Justice Chrissa Loukas-Karlsson following her retirement, recognising her long-standing contribution to the Territory’s justice system.
Appointed to the ACT Supreme Court in 2018, Justice Loukas-Karlsson presided over complex civil and criminal matters and was widely respected for her independence, fairness and compassion.
Before joining the Bench, she built a distinguished career at the criminal bar as Senior Counsel, a Public Defender and a Crown Prosecutor, with a strong focus on human rights and access to justice.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr praised her “unwavering integrity, intellectual rigour and a deep commitment to justice,” while Attorney-General Tara Cheyne described her as a role model whose legacy “will be felt for many years to come.”
Justice Loukas-Karlsson said it had been “the honour of my life” to serve on the ACT Supreme Court. The ACT Government said the process to appoint a new Supreme Court judge would begin soon.
