It’s not every day that a teenager opens their own business, but for one young Greek Australian from Canberra, it was as simple as turning his passion for cars into a side hustle.
Peter Gourgouras decided to start up his own car-detailing business recently.
The business, Precision Auto, specialises in full interior cleans with detailing on windows, doors, boots, seats and carpets, and full exterior washes with soap and wax, as well as ceramic coats and clay bars on tyres.
Starting the business:
Peter said starting up the business came about as he wanted to make money after school, as well as save up for his first car.
“All of my family is into cars, and I’ve been growing up with them all my life, so naturally I have a bit of a passion for them,” Peter told The Greek Herald.
“So, I just thought I’d start a job around that, since I really like it and I’m a bit of a hands-on type of person.
“I set it up as a side hustle, just to make some extra money. But if it turns into a career type of thing, I’d want to take it up fulltime in the future as I love doing it.
“I really like that the job is flexible, so I can do it when I want, and I can set my own hours. It’s usually whenever I’m free and when they’re free.”
A love for cars:
Peter said his love for cars began at the age of five, after growing up and watching his dad, Theo, who was an automotive electrician, work on cars all the time.
“I was always surrounded by cars, and then I kind of developed a passion for them as I got older,” he said.
“My dad had been building a car for the past 20 years as well, and when I was young I remember him asking me to go grab the screwdriver, go grab this, go grab that, and I was always helping him.
“That’s essentially how I learned what I know now, just by helping him in the garage.”
The Canberra teenager revealed what he loves most about working with cars.
“I don’t know how to explain it… everyone’s got a passion for something, and I guess cars is mine,” Peter said.
Community and family support
Peter said the Canberra community, including many Greeks, have already shown great support for his business.
“My friends have been sharing it around as much as they can which has been super helpful,” Peter said.
“My family has also been supportive. They have been sharing my posts around as much as they can and have been helping me get my name out there.
“It feels so good knowing that I’ve got people that are there for me, and it just feels awesome to be able to provide my services and help people out in the community with my business too.”
