Canberra will host a commemoration marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian and Greek genocides, bringing together community, civic and political representatives in the Australian Capital Territory.
The event, organised by the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) and the Canberra Association of Pontos ‘Trapezounta’, will be held on Thursday, 2 July 2026 at 6:00pm in the Apollo Room at the Hellenic Club of Canberra.
The annual gathering is expected to include ethnic, religious, civic and political leaders alongside members of Canberra’s Armenian and Greek communities.

This year’s keynote address will be delivered by genocide scholar Dr Deborah Mayersen, a Senior Lecturer in International and Political Studies at the University of New South Wales Canberra at the Australian Defence Force Academy.
Her work focuses on genocide prevention and atrocity studies, and she is the author of Genocide Prevention: An Evidence-Based Approach (2026) and On the Path to Genocide: Armenia and Rwanda Reexamined (2014).
The commemoration will honour the memory of more than 2.5 million Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians who died during the genocidal campaigns of the Ottoman Empire, while also recognising the resilience and contributions of surviving Armenian and Pontian communities worldwide.
