Oakleigh Grammar celebrates 10 years of changing lives with the Arrowsmith Program

·

Oakleigh Grammar proudly marked a significant milestone, celebrating 10 years of the Arrowsmith Program with a special evening that brought together current and former students, families and staff in the School’s Conference Centre.

The anniversary celebration was a powerful reflection of the life-changing impact of the Arrowsmith Program, with the community gathering to honour a decade of empowering young people to overcome learning challenges and reach their full potential.

The warm and uplifting atmosphere was evident throughout the evening, as past and present families reconnected, shared their journeys and celebrated the transformative outcomes the program has delivered.

Event attendees heard from former and current Arrowsmith parents and students, alongside Arrowsmith Coordinator Helen Gilinas, Principal Mark Robertson and a recorded message from Debbie Gilmore, Executive Director of the Arrowsmith Program.

The reflections shared throughout the evening highlighted the profound and lasting impact of the program, showcasing how Arrowsmith continues to support students who may have struggled in mainstream education settings, empowering them with the skills and confidence to thrive.

Principal Mark Robertson said the milestone was a proud moment for the School community and reflected on the journey that Arrowsmith students have been through.

“Over this past decade we have witnessed something truly remarkable. We have seen students walk through our doors uncertain of themselves, often carrying frustration, anxiety or the feeling that learning was something that happened more easily for others. And we have watched those same students discover confidence, resilience, independence and pride,” Mr Robertson said.

“That transformation does not happen overnight. It comes through persistence. Through hard work. Through moments of struggle and moments of breakthrough. And often, it comes because someone believed in a child before they fully believed in themselves.”

Arrowsmith Coordinator Helen Gilinas also reflected on the significance and importance of the milestone.

“The Arrowsmith Program is an incredible cognitive enhancement program that has transformed the lives of so many students and their families. I am so grateful to be part of this amazing program at Oakleigh Grammar,” Ms Gilinas said.

The event was attended by distinguished guests including Oakleigh Grammar Board Chairman Chris Damatopoulos, former Head of Arrowsmith Wayne Stagg and former Head of Junior School Lauren Cummins, who were both instrumental in helping bring the program to Oakleigh Grammar. Members of the Oakleigh Grammar Board of Management and Executive Team also attended, reflecting the significance of the milestone for the broader School community.

Guests concluded the evening with refreshments, as members of the Oakleigh Grammar Arrowsmith community continued to reconnect and reflect on their shared journey.

Oakleigh Grammar extended a special thank you to Events Coordinator Lena Piplios and Arrowsmith Coordinator Helen Gilinas for their exceptional efforts in delivering this milestone event, along with the support of the Marketing team in bringing the celebration to life.
