The Northern Territory chapter of the Hellenic Australian Lawyers Association (HAL NT) has hosted its 1821 Oration at the Supreme Court in Darwin, marking the legacy of the Greek War of Independence.

The event, held in Court 1 of the Supreme Court of the NT, was attended by senior judicial figures including Chief Justice Michael Grant and Chief Judge Elizabeth Morris, alongside honorary Philhellenes and members of the legal and wider community.

In a statement, the Greek Orthodox Community of Northern Australia (GOCNA) said it was “honoured to attend” the event, describing it as “a distinguished and memorable occasion” celebrating “the enduring legacy of the 1821 Greek War of Independence.”

The evening featured a scholarly oration dedicated to the heroism of Laskarina Bouboulina, as well as musical performances and traditional Greek hospitality.

Organisers, including Suzi Kapetas, were thanked for delivering what was described as “a celebration of Hellenic history, spirit, and culture and a powerful tribute to the values and sacrifices that continue to inspire generations.”
