Archbishop Makarios makes an official pastoral visit to South Australia

Archbishop Makarios of Australia has made an official pastoral visit to Adelaide in South Australia this week.

During his visit, Archbishop Makarios has participated as a keynote speaker at the Youth Conference organised by the Central Youth “St. Stephen the First Martyr” of the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide.

This was the first Youth Conference to be held in SA in over ten years.

After his speech at the conference, the Archbishop also participated in a Q&A session and spoke directly to the youth in attendance about issues concerning their generation.

On Sunday, November 27, Archbishop Makarios also presided over the official opening of the new Archdiocesan Cathedral in Adelaide, which was given the name ‘Agia Sophia – Wisdom of God.’

The official opening of this new church saw the attendance of many faithful and official guests, including the Archiepiscopal Vicar of Adelaide, His Grace Bishop Silouan of Sinope; the Archiepiscopal Vicar of Brisbane, His Grace Bishop Emilianos of Meloa; and the Consul General of Greece in Adelaide, Mr George Psiachas; among many others.
