Melbourian Mel Pateras creates lipstick range which helps women with cancer

·

Former Chanel beauty executive, Mel Pateras (and Melbourne based mother of one) has developed her own luxury lipstick brand Meleros Cosmetics with proceeds going to help women with cancer, whilst also paying homage to her Greek heritage.

The best selling lipsticks have been a hit since launch selling out three times and one lipstick flying off shelves every 10 minutes.

Mel’s journey began in 2008 when she joined Look Good Feel Better, a cosmetic cancer charity, as a volunteer, which she still does to this day. She discovered the incredible power of giving back to women, young teenage girls, and some who are in their last days. This experience led her to develop a passion for beauty and fashion and paved the way for her 10-year journey working with Chanel Australia.

Mel’s journey with cancer began with the loss of her beloved aunt to the disease. This tragic experience inspired her to want to do something to help other women affected by cancer. She knew that makeup and beauty can be a powerful tool for boosting confidence and self-esteem, and she wanted to create a luxury makeup brand that would cater specifically to women undergoing cancer treatment.

In 2012, Mel had an epiphany and vision that by the time she was 40, she was going to run her own cosmetic brand. And so, in 2017, Mel travelled across America, researching and meeting with many cosmetic manufacturers to commence the journey of creating her brand. She decided to start with a lipstick line because, to her, working with the mouth on the face is such an erogenous zone, not only for speaking, kissing, and eating but also for painting.

So in 2020 as the pandemic hit, Meleros Cosmetics launched and within 3 months all the lipsticks had sold out, despite the constant lockdowns. In 2021, Mel then decided to move manufacturing into Greece and align the brand to Greek culture, paying homage to her own.

With 18 difference shades of lipstick, the best sellers have been:

EROS – named after the Greek god of Love- it’s a fuschia red pink, bold, romantic and a hue of lust.

OUZO – This shade is named after a Greek cultural drink named Ouzo. Ouzo is an anise-flavoured liqueur produced from grape must (the remnants of wine-making). It can only be made in Greece and Cyprus. This shade takes you to the Greek islands.

Meleros Cosmetics at its core is committed to helping women with cancer feel their best, so it donates a portion of their profits to Look Good Feel Better. They also offer a special program that allows women with cancer to try on their lipsticks before they purchase.

In addition to this, fertility is also an issue close to Mel’s heart so she has collaborated with Australia’s fertility Queen Dr Lynn Burmeister, who has over 15 years experience in the area of reproductive endocrinology and reproductive. Mel also saw an opportunity to partner with Dr Lynn and the ladies have created their own lipstick called “Love Pink” a best-selling hero pink shade and collaboration sold exclusively at No.1 skin.

Meleros Cosmetics is all about empowering women to feel confident, beautiful, and bold. Their luxurious, high-quality, and cruelty-free lipsticks are designed to complement every skin tone and help women shine from the inside out.
