Volunteers from the St Nectarios Greek Orthodox Parish and Community of Burwood and District in Sydney have been recognised at the Burwood Council’s Volunteer Recognition Awards this year.

Saint Nectarios Burwood’s youth group, Youth In Action, took out the title for Volunteer Team of the Year. The award was accepted by Demi Kioussis, Nicole Economos and Faith Tsintarakis.

Youth In Action was established in 2018 with young people 12-30 years old gathering to fundraise to support their chosen charities and philanthropic projects. Their activities support refugees, children with disabilities, underprivileged children and seniors.

At the same award ceremony, Spyros Sioutas – a long-serving volunteer at St Nectarios Burwood – was also named Senior Volunteer of the Year.

Mr Sioutas’ was awarded in recognition of his more than 25 years of dedicated service to the Parish and Community and helping those in need.

Mr Sioutas has been a key volunteer at The Cottage Kitchen, delivering home-made meals to those in need every Monday. He is also an active volunteer at Greek Street Fair Burwood and attends the church almost every day to support Father George Liangas and the Board.
